Children at Weddings - Yeah or Neah?

Should you invite children to your wedding? A million dollar question that is sure to divide the nation! Personally, I would have no issue inviting children of family & close friends. In fact I would love for them to be part of such a special occasion.  But the reality of the situation is that, a wedding is actually a very long and boring day for a child, with a lot of “sssh Be Quiet!”  “Sit Down!” rules & regulations, and sometimes stressed out parents running around after them!

If you are taking the plunge to include children in your day, here are a few things to consider;

Give them a special job.

Disposable cameras & a list of pictures to capture is not only the cutest idea, but will leave you with (hopefully) some candid moments that might have otherwise been missed.

Entertainment.

This is an absolute must! Whether it be entertainment packs on the tables to keep them busy during the meal, or entertainment corners to keep them amused during the evening.

We know a gem of a company called Sleepee Teepee & Bell.  They have an amazing range of teepees & themes that’s sure to fit your aesthetic and guaranteed to keep the children happy for a good few hours.

Keep it Kid Friendly.

Think about having all the children seated at the same table, with kid friendly food options.  Food that they like will make them happier and keep their bellies full.  Filled goodie bags always go down a treat, with colouring books, puzzles & small toys. A cost effective way of tiding you through the meal without any mayhem.

Book a Nanny Sure to reduce the stress for parents, booking a qualified nanny will ensure children are safe, looked after and entertained throughout the day & evening. The Wedding Sitter @theweddingsitter_ based in Kildare offers this very service. From helping with morning preparation to toileting, feeding & naps, this would be a non negotiable for me!

The Cons.

A few things to consider when inviting a lot of children is your little extras.

Our audio guestbook has been filled with 1 second recordings of children playing with the phone, or saying hello and hanging up times 100!

Similarily, If you are thinking of having a polaroid picture/photobooth area, be prepared for the camera to go walkies!

Candy carts/sweet tables will be like a magnet for children! consider keeping this covered until after the meal.

These might seem like minor glitches, but if you are putting your efforts into capturing these memories you don’t want them sabotaged!

Follow your heart with this decision. It’s your day, your way so you get to make up the rules!

Good Luck!
